Lodge History

Masonry is the oldest, largest, and most widely known fraternal organization in the world. It is a 3,000 year old fraternity that is comprised of men who seek to become better through their association with one another and their families.

Masonry is not meant to be a secret organization. Open installation of Officers in New Jersey commenced on April 30, 1970, providing another means to tell the public of Freemasonry, and to demonstrate the fraternity's desire to be understood by the community at large.

Harmony Lodge No. 8 was instituted on June 24, 1788; five years after the close of the Revolutionary War; one year after the formulation of the Grand Lodge of New Jersey; and ten months before the inauguration of George Washington as the First President of the United States.

Prepared by Wor. Fred W. Fox, PM

Harmony Lodge received its warrant on June 23, 1788. The warrant was surrendered on November 12, 1816 and restored on November 9, 1819. It was stricken from the rolls on November 8, 1842 and resuscitated on January 9, 1852 as Harmony Lodge No. 23. The original number was restored in 1906.
