HISTORY
OF ADONIRAM COUNCIL, NO. 9 R.&S.M.
Pg.
4 of 4
Certainly
Adoniram can justly feel proud of it's first council officers, for
represented, there were many who had and some who later obtained high
honors in the M. W. Grand Lodge of F. & A. M. in this State.
Illustrious Companion W. D. Wolfskeil and Companion Charles 0. Russ
filled the exalted station of M. W. Grand Master. Illustrious
Companion Theodore B. Townley was for years Grand Secretary.
Illustrious Companion Palmer H. Charlock and Companions J. G. T.
Shoe, Jacob W. Sheppard and William F. Marsh were all R. W. Brethren,
having held appointive office in the Grand Lodge.
Five
of the original officers elected at the reviving of the Council,
Illustrious Companions Townley , Charlock, Russ, Sheppard and Marsh
have all been called to that Grand Lodge above.
The
Council was also honored in the Grand Council; Harold Hoyt Tilton
being appointed Grand Steward in 1920 and at the time of his death in
1922 was Grand Conductor of Council.
That
the interest in Cryptic Rite Masonry has been active and earnest is
evidenced by the phenomenal growth and prosperity that has attended
Adoniram Council since it's resuscitation in 1908. From a membership
of fifty it has grown wonderfully and in the report for the Council
year ended in December 1922 had 317 companions enrolled in good
standing and is in membership the third largest Council in the State.
